If you have filed your income tax return for the Assessment Year 2020-21 and have not received the refund so far, you are not alone. A technical upgrade for faster processing of the ITRs could be the reason behind the delay. After numerous complaints of delay in processing Income Tax refunds in spite of filing returns ahead of time, the Income Tax Department said that it happening due to as the system is in the middle of a technical upgrade.
One taxpayer took to Twitter on 14 November complaining that in spite of filing ITR for the FY 2019-20 in July and subsequently e-verifying it, his refund has not been processed nor has his complaint on the e-filing website. To this, the IT Department replied on Friday saying, "As part of our commitment to provide improved taxpayer services, we are moving to a new, technologically upgraded platform (CPC 2.0) for faster processing of ITRs. ITRs for AY 2020-21 will be processed on CPC 2.0. We thank you for your patience while we migrate to the new system."
However, the tweet did not mention any timeline on when it will migrate to CPC 2.0 and when the returns will start processing for the assessment year 2020-21. The CPC or centralized processing centre of the IT dept in Bengaluru is where all the IT returns are processed. With 2.0, the department is expanding it's capacity and upgrading technology to provide better services to the taxpayers through pre-filled forms and reducing time for refunds.
