Italy Open: Iga Swiatek wins 27th consecutively to her name

Iga Swiatek, who is at the top of the rankings, has also equalled Serena Williams' record by defeating Aryna Sabalenka 6-2, 6-1 in the semi-finals of the Italy Open on Saturday to register her 27th consecutive win. Serena has also achieved this feat in 2014 and 2015. The 20-year-old from Poland, who is trying to win the fifth consecutive tournament with his title in Rome, has not got any chance to 8th-ranked player  Sabalenka.  

In  Sunday's final, Swiatek will face the challenge of  the winner of the match between Ons Jabur or Russia's Daria Casatkina. Jabur has also won 10 matches in a row before the semi-finals. Earlier on Friday, world number one Novak Djokovic defeated Felix Agar Aliasim in straight sets in a hard-fought match to make his place in the semi-finals.

Reports say that Djokovic, who was just one match away from completing the calendar Grand Slam in 2021, has beaten Felix 7-5, 7-6. In the semi-finals, he will face Casper Rudd. In another men's semi-final, Alexander Zverev will face the challenge of Stefanos Tsitsipas.
