Hiroshima: Giorgia Meloni, the prime minister of Italy, will depart the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Hiroshima one day earlier than expected to oversee the response to flooding that hit her country's north this week, two sources said on Saturday.

The Italian region of Emilia-Romagna was devastated by torrential rains that killed 14 people, cost billions of euros in damage, and had a particularly negative impact on agriculture.

Tuesday's cabinet meeting of the Italian government will decide on the emergency response measures. The G7 leaders and all other leaders who had shown support for Italy and those affected by the flooding earlier in the day were thanked by Meloni.
