In Sikkim, 17 passengers stranded due to heavy snowfall at an altitude of 13,600 feet in Sarathang completed the rescue by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Jawans. On Tuesday night, the jawans of the 48 battalions of ITBP in less than zero temperature completed the rescue mission. 3 trains were trapped in the snow near Sarathang, with a total of 17 passengers (3 children, 4 women, and 10 men) on board. According to ITBP, all of them were safely rescue at around 10 am on Tuesday night.

According to ITBP, these passengers were reported to be stranded in the evening. After which the rescue team of ITBP arrived there with their luggage and crane train. The evacuation of stranded passengers started at around 6 pm. A child and a woman who is falling ill have also been given medicines. After about 4 hours of operation, all were safely flagged off.

ITBP jawans are always coming forward for such humanitarian work. A large-scale relief operation was launched by ITBP Jawans after the floods caused by glacier breakdown in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand last month. Several people trapped in a tunnel in the Tapovan Power project area were evacuated safely. In addition, the Jawans helped in providing relief material in several disaster-affected villages.

ITBP personnel during rescue: ITBP was founded after the 1962 war with China, with about 90,000 jawans and 60 battalions. It is a special force guarding the 3,488 km long Line of Actual Control (LAC) between India and China. Most of the ITBP posts in the Western, Central, and Eastern sectors of LAC from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh are located at an altitude ranging from 9,000 feet to 18,700 feet.
