J Dey murder case verdict: Chhota Rajan convicted , journo Jigna Vora acquitted

NEW DELHI: A special court today convicted gangster Chhota Rajan while Jigna Vora found not guilty of the murder of journalist J Dey, who was shot dead in Mumbai in 2011.

The 56-year-old veteran crime journalist, at the time, was gun downed in housing Powai on June 11, 2011, while he was going home.

Another accused, Paulsen Joseph was scribed acquitted while those who are convicted include shooters Satish Kaliya, Anil Waghmode, Arun Fake and Mangesh Agavane.

Journalist Vora was suspected to pass on Dey's information to the gangster. A separate charge sheet was lodged against Vora for allegedly activating Rajan against Dey owing to her own professional enmity.

On a related note Rajan was extradited to India in December 2015. He is at present served in the Tihar Central Jail, New Delhi.

The trial resumed after Rajan's extradition. The CBI took over the case and a supplementary charge sheet was lodged in 2016. The CBI sated Dey was writing two books that not only dainted  Rajan’s image but also put arch opponent Dawood Ibrahim on a higher pedestal.

About 155 witnesses threw out, of which seven were declared antagonistic. The first charge sheet was filed in the case in 2011 named Satish Kaliya, Abhijeet Shinde, Arun Dake, Sachin Gaikwad, Anil Waghmode, Nilesh Shendge, Mangesh Agawane, Vinod Asrani, Paulson Joseph and Deepak Sisodia as accused and all arrested.
