NEW DELHI: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, NDA candidate filed his nomination on Monday for vice presidential polls. On the day of the presidential election, he submitted his nomination papers for the position of vice president.

BJP leader Jagat Prakash Nadda announced his nomination for the second highest constitutional position on Saturday. Dhankhar pledged to work for the nation's democratic values as soon as he submitted his nomination. "I'll always work to strengthen the nation's democratic principles. Never imagined in my wildest fantasies that someone from my humble origins would be given this chance."

Dhankar submitted his candidacy,  in presence of BJP head Nadda, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nitin Gadkari.. JP Nadda described Dhankhar as a "Kisan-Putra" (farmer's son) who had become known as the "people's governor." Nadda has also pleaded with all parties, including UPA allies, to support the vice presidential candidate of the NDA.
Dhankhar, a lawyer by profession, began his political career in 1989. In July 2019, he was appointed governor of West Bengal, and ever since, his contentious interactions with the Mamata Banerjee administration have garnered media attention.

Taking to Twitter, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said, "Greetings on Shri @jdhankhar1 ji's selection as the NDA's vice presidential candidate. Dhankhar ji, who was raised in a modest farming family, devoted his life to advancing social justice and the well-being of the populace." I am confident that his comprehension of practical issues and constitutional knowledge would be of great help to the country," Shah said.
