Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Congress unit has elected Jagdish Thakor as its president. The change comes a year before the assembly elections of next year. Following a humiliating defeat in the body elections, Amit Chavda resigned as Congress president in March of this year. The party has been searching for a new president in the state since then, which has now been finished.

On the one hand, the BJP transforms the whole government, including the CM, while on the other hand, Congress is unable to nominate its president, according to opposition parties. Gujarat's body elections were held on March 2 of this year, and the results were announced on March 2. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received almost 2,000 votes, while the Congress received just 600 votes.

Amit Chavda had resigned from his position, admitting to being to blame for the humiliating defeat. In addition to him, Congress leader Paresh Dhanani resigned from the party in the legislature. The party has been hunting for a new president in the state since then. Hardik Patel, the head of the Patidar community, was also rumoured to be running, but the leadership chose Jagdish Thakor.
