The University of Mumbai, on the 70th independence day of the country, awarded the '69-year-old' Jai Hind College as one of the 'best college' of this year.

The university awarded two affiliated colleges each from urban and rural areas for their excellence in the education standard.

The winning colleges bagged a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 50,000.

The other college that won the award in the Urban section is Maharshi Dayanand College.

Pillai College in Panvel and Godavari Shyamrao Parulekar College, Talasari won the award in the rural category.

"Established in 1948, the college has a rich heritage. It is great that its contributions to the education sector have been recognised", said Principal of Jai Hind College, Ashok Wadia.
