New Delhi: The proposed Personal Data Protection Bill provides a penalty of up to Rs 15 crore or four percent of international business as well as a jail sentence on companies that violate the rules of protection of personal information. Cabinet has approved the bill on Wednesday. This Bill may be introduced in Parliament in the current session of Parliament.

A source has said that in addition to this, an executive looking after the charge of data business in the bill can also be jailed for up to three years for violations. The bill proposes that an officer of the company may have to go to jail if he is found to have deliberately done the work of identifying the person or processing data against the anonymous data of the citizens of India by matching the public data.

The source has said that in a major violation in the Personal Data Protection Bill, it is proposed to impose a fine of up to Rs 15 crore on companies or up to four per cent of their international business (whichever is higher). It has been proposed to impose a fine of up to five crore rupees or two per cent of international business in small cases of violations.
