Bangalore: Jain community organised a major rally in the Belagavi district of Karnataka to protest against illegal conversion. The rally was attended by officials and religious leaders of several organizations of the Jain community. The rally was taken out on Thursday (October 21, 2021). According to media reports, a large number of Jains also participated in the rally. The rally started from Rani Chennamma Circle and concluded at the deputy commissioner's office.
The rally collectively expressed concern over the ever-increasing conversion in Karnataka. According to the organizers, a large number of people are being converted to Christianity in Kittur, Belagavi, Khanapur, Baihongal talukas. The rally demanded the administration to strictly stop conversions. At the same time, Jain leaders present at the rally also requested the government to pay attention to conversion. A memorandum to this effect was also submitted to the DC office. The memorandum seeks strict action from the Karnataka government against the converts. Jain leaders present at the rally also addressed the press conference. Jain Yuva Sangathan leader Kunthinath Kalmani, who was part of the rally, demanded the imposition of anti-conversion law in the state.
According to them, this law is essential to prevent illegal conversions. The rally was attended by Jain International Trade Organisation, Karnataka Jain Association Bengaluru, South India Jain Sabha, Indian Jain Organization and many other groups. Conversion is at its peak in the rural areas of Karnataka. According to the report, Christian missioners are converting to these areas on a large scale by showing greed and fear. The Department of Minority Welfare and Scheduled Castes has directed the officials to indicate the number of missionaries active in conversion in their areas.
