Ashok Gehlot government trapped in legal odds

About two and a half years after the Ashok Gehlot Government of Rajasthan came to power, there is confusion about the appointment in various commissions and boards. If there is no appointment in the commissions and boards on time, the state government, trapped in the contempt case of the High Court, has to present its answer tomorrow. The High Court will hear tomorrow in the matter of contempt.

After the formation of the government, a petition was filed in the High Court last year on the absence of appointments in various boards and commissions. The High Court, after hearing the petition, strictly ordered the government to make appointments soon, but the government has not made appointments even after that. While the then Chief Secretary told the court that the government is going to start the appointment process soon. But it has been a year and so far the government has not moved even a step further in this matter. Due to this, the government got caught in the contempt case of the High Court.

This case of contempt will now be heard in the High Court on August 27. The government has to answer in court about appointments. According to sources, the Cabinet Secretariat has made full preparations for filing the reply. Officials say that the contempt case of the court was related to former Chief Secretary DB Gupta. Since DB Gupta is no longer the Chief Secretary (DB Gupta has been replaced by Rajiv Swaroop), in such a case, the government should be given time to file an answer. The government is trying to avoid this argument. This will give time to the government. During this time the government will complete the process of appointments in various boards and commissions.
