Jaipur: Suraj Soni from Rajasthan has set up a 'bird housing scheme' which he calls the "Pakshi Awas Yojna".

Suraj Soni who is resident of Jaipur has taken up the onerous task of ensuring that the harsh summer-stroke does not claim the lives of birds in the capital city of Rajasthan. For this purpose, he has managed to install over 800 nests for birds in the city of Jaipur alone.

These nests are made up of water-proof ply and can be set up on walls, trees or poles about 15-20 feet above the ground in order to make it safe for wild bird species.

More than 800 waterproof nests made of wood installed by Soni and his team of volunteers are playing the role of an oasis for birds in unrelenting weather conditions.

'Elections should not be held over a long duration', says Nitish Kumar

Soni told ANI that he frequently seeks the help of these young volunteers to set up new nests or check on older ones. "

He said, “We have made water arrangements for more than 2000 birds.”

The bird lover also asserted that the age of the nests is almost 5-7 years and all of them are waterproof. The bird lover also added that the nests protect birds in the scorching summer as effectively as they do during the monsoon or winter seasons.

The height of the nests ensures that their eggs are not endangered by predators such as cats or snakes, says Soni. Several species of birds, including parrots and pigeons, have made these artificial nests their home and are cared for by 'Pakshi Mitra' who feed them and provide them water.
