Kolkata: Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing them of engaging in vendetta politics following the arrest of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case. Ramesh stated that the BJP's agenda is to hinder the success of the "Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra" and highlighted instances of opposition leaders like Lalu Yadav, associates of MK Stalin, and AAP leaders facing investigations by ED and CBI.

Hemant Soren, the former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, claimed that the ED attempted to tarnish his image through raids at his Delhi residence. In a video message, Soren, asserting his innocence, mentioned that the arrest was based on unrelated matters. Meanwhile, Congress leaders expressed concerns about the safety of their MLAs, fearing poaching attempts by the BJP. The Jharkhand Congress in charge, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, emphasized the need to protect MLAs in a secure location until the Governor decides on the new government formation.

Regarding the law and order situation, Ranchi SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha stated that extensive police deployment, with over 2,000 personnel at around 150 locations, has been implemented to maintain peace. The arrest of Hemant Soren occurred amidst speculation and a political upheaval, leading to his resignation and discussions about the formation of a new government in Jharkhand. JMM Leader Champai Soren, designated as the JMM legislative party leader, asserted his claim to form the government with the support of 47 MLAs, vowing to safeguard the pride of the state.
