NEW DELHI: Dr. S. Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, thanked the Comoros government and people on their forty-seventh anniversary of independence and praised the SAGAR outreach initiative, which directs relations between the two countries. Taking to Twitter, Jaishankar wrote: "Happy National Day to the Comoros government, people, and Foreign Minister Dhoihir Dhoulkamal. Our partnership is governed by our SAGAR vision."

Notably, July 6 is always designated as Comoros Independence Day. Comoros celebrate their National Day on this day to remember when they gained their independence from France on July 6, 1975. Comoros plays a significant role in India's SAGAR initiative, which promotes maritime cooperation in the Indian Ocean region. During 2021–2022, the bilateral relationship between India and the Comoros grew.

In Bangalore, India, from February 3 to 5, 2021, a three-person Comorian delegation, led by Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Dhoihir Dhoulkamal, attended the Aero India 2021 and Indian Ocean Region (IOR) Defence Ministers Conclave.

On the sidelines of the event, the Comorian Foreign Minister had a bilateral meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. A special shipment of 1000 MT of rice was sent to the Comoros on-board INS Jalashwa in March 2021, as stated during Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu's trip there in October 2019. The Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service hosted the first special course for diplomats in the Indian Ocean region from September 19 to October 2, 2021, with participation from twelve Comorian diplomats.
