Jammu Kashmir: The Government of India has granted Rs 604 crore to Jammu & Kashmir in order to speed up the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission. In 2021-22, a total of Rs 2,747 crore has been given to the UT for the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission, approximately four times the amount allocated in 2020-21.

By August 2022, Jammu & Kashmir intends to become the 'Har Ghar Jal' UT. 10.39 lakh (57 percent) of the 18.35 lakh rural homes in the UT have access to running water. Despite bad weather conditions and transportation obstacles in many places of this tough terrain, water supply development is in full motion to provide villages with tap water. Every rural home in Srinagar and Ganderbal districts, as well as 1,070 villages, will have access to tap water.

The Union Government, led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has made it a top priority to provide tap water connections to every rural household in the country through the Jal Jeevan Mission, with a massive increase in budgetary allocation to Rs. 2,747.17 crore in 2021-22, up from Rs. 681.77 crore the year before.

Jal Jeevan Mission is done in a decentralised way using a 'bottom-up' strategy, in which the local village community takes a significant part in all aspects of the project, from design to implementation, management to operation and maintenance.
