Jamie Dornan recently spoke with British GQ on dealing with the backlash that followed his role in the Fifty Shades series. The 39-year-old actor acknowledged that he expected some blowback in response to the erotica films, but he was surprised by the level of vitriol. "There's nothing like Fifty Shades in terms of, it was based on literature and we were sticking very loyal to these books," he told the magazine. The fanbase adored these novels. Every reviewer detested her. She was adored, feverishly adored, and despised by everyone. "The novels were panned by true critics," Jamie stated.
"You know you're going to have these movies for the fans, that the fans are going to adore, that are going to earn a lot of money," he continued. However, you know the critics would be licking their lips, and that's exactly what occurred. And we knew it was going to happen, so you're seeing everything unfold, which can be f—–g difficult at times."
After Charlie Hunnam dropped out of the franchise in 2013 and declined to play Christan Grey, the actor went on to declare that he "felt the fury of hatred." The actor, on the other hand, indicated that he had no regrets about appearing in the series. "The point is, post-those films, every move I've taken in my career has been possible solely because of those pictures." Because everything I've done in the previous five or six years, whether it's Belfast, Beyond Private, or any other well-received more independent work, they're only budgeting and paying for those films to be made in my name because I'm in a franchise that earned 1.4 billion dollars. This is how it works. It’s all part of it, it’s given me so much, so of course I don’t regret it,” he said.
