Srinagar: An encounter has begun in the Dragad area of Shopian in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Police and security forces are carrying out the operation. Jammu and Kashmir Police have informed in this regard. All people have been asked to stay indoors under the anti-terror operation. Elaborate security arrangements have been made in the area. Police and security forces are fully alert.

As the joint team of forces moved towards the suspected location, the hidden militants started firing at the security forces, after which the encounter started. A senior police officer also confirmed firing between the militants and security forces. According to sources, two to three terrorists are estimated to be trapped. Army officials said people were alerted by announcing from local mosques. Security forces are preparing for the final strike against the terrorists.

Army Chief General MM Narwane had arrived on a two-day visit to the Jammu region over the ongoing encounter between the security force and terrorists. During this time, he visited further areas along the Line of Control and several instructions were given to the security forces as part of the ongoing operation. Additional Director General of Police, Jammu Mukesh Singh had also visited Bhimber Gali on Sunday and expressed confidence that the terrorists would be eliminated soon.
