Srinagar: search operation was launched after a terrorist fled the encounter site in the Natipora area of Srinagar in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Police in the area had gunned down a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist during an encounter on Friday. Officials said two terrorists opened fire on the police after which an encounter broke out in which one terrorist was killed while the other escaped.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police have reported that fake news of an attack on a doctor's house in Srinagar is being spread. Two vehicles and two houses were hit in the windows of the area during the Natipora encounter. The Kashmir Zone police tweeted that the militants opened fire on the Srinagar police team, after which the police also retaliated. One terrorist was gunned down during the encounter while the other escaped.

Police sources said arms and ammunition were also recovered from the spot. He said that according to an identity card received from the slain terrorist, he has been identified as Aqib Bashir, a resident of Shopian who worked for Lashkar-e-Toiba.
