Temple attacked in Jammu's Muslim-dominated area, criminals vandalise idols

Srinagar: Reports of an attack on a Hindu temple in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have come to light. Temples and idols have been damaged in this attack. The incident took place at the Laxmi Narayan Temple in the Sidda area, which is an area adjoining the city. The idols have been dumped outside the temple premises. Police have registered a case and launched a search for the attackers. The incident took place on Thursday – and Friday (April 8, 2022).
 
In the video that has surfaced after the incident, policemen are seen outside the temple premises. According to media reports, the Laxmi Narayan temple, which was attacked, is located in the forest area behind the golf course in the Rangura area on the banks of river Tawi. About half a dozen idols have been demolished in the attack, including idols of Lord Ganesha and Narasimha. Attempts have also been made to break the door of the temple store. There is a lot of resentment among the devotees over this incident.

On Friday morning, when local residents reached the temple for darshan, they came to know about the incident. According to the senior superintendent of police of the district Chandan Kohli, the accused will be arrested soon. According to the locals, this temple was also attacked about 5 years ago. The statue at the entrance of the temple was then damaged. In another incident, a bell and some utensils were stolen from the store on the temple premises. At the same time, it is being told that, where this incident took place, 99 per cent of the Muslim population lives in the area.
