Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah tabled a bill before the Lok Sabha on Friday to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004, in which people living within 10 kms of the international border have 3 per cent reservation in educational institutions and government jobs. has been expanded.

The J&K Reservation Act provides reservation for direct recruitment, promotion and admission to several professional courses in various categories, but was not extended to people along the international border. The region faces firing by the Pakistani army, forcing people to move to safer places often.

Amit Shah said in the Lok Sabha that "due to constant tension along the border, people along the international border have to face socio-economic and educational backwardness." E is affected because educational institutions near the border remain closed for a long time.
