Srinagar: An army soldier shot himself with his service rifle and committed suicide in Shopian district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. On giving information, official sources said that a security force camp in Javura village of Shopian was stirred up after hearing the sound of gunfire on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

The soldiers of the security forces ran towards the area from where the sound of gunfire was heard and found a soldier stained with blood. He said the injured soldier was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead. It is not yet known why the soldier took this step. The police have registered a case in this regard and are trying to find out the circumstances that led to the suicide of the soldier.

This is the second incident in Jammu and Kashmir in less than 24 hours in which the security force has committed suicide with his service rifle. Border Security Force (BSF) soldier Head Constable Bharinder Singh committed suicide on Wednesday in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district in North Kashmir.
