Srinagar: No untoward incident has been reported from the state following the announcement of the recommendation to remove Section 370 granting special status to Jammu and Kashmir. In Srinagar, people were seen leaving their homes this morning to discuss the incident. The situation in Jammu, Srinagar and Doda is normal after nearly 24 hours of the historic announcement. Late last night, Governor Satypal Malik held a review meeting with senior officials on security.

However, security arrangements have been made in the valley. Security forces have been deployed in every part of Jammu and Kashmir. Mobile phone and internet services have been suspended in the Kashmir Valley. All schools and colleges in Jammu and Kashmir have been closed. On August 5, university exams have also been cancelled until further orders. The government has issued directives to airlines to reduce fares.

On the other hand, two former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah have been taken into precautionary custody on the orders of the government. The two leaders are said to have been evacuated from their homes and shifted to Hari Singh Palace. The two leaders were detained in their respective homes late Sunday evening.
