Cold wave grips J&K, temperature dips to 'below-zero' across Valley

Srinagar: With the improvement in the maximum temperature of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the cold wave has started wreaking havoc in the valley. The coolness is increasing continuously. People are huddled in their homes and are waiting for the sun to come out. Blood freezing cold is being seen in most of the districts of Kashmir due to the minus temperature at night. Night temperatures in Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Leh, and Kargil are several degrees below zero, while Srinagar recorded the coldest night of the winter since last night. 

In most areas of the union territory, the day temperature is running below normal by 2 to 4 degree Celsius. According to the Meteorological Department in Srinagar, the weather will remain dry till the first week of December. There is a possibility of light sunshine during the day and a drop in the night temperature. The weather remained clear in the state on Tuesday.

Capital Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -2.2, one degree below normal, while it was -1.8 in Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir, -4.2 in tourist resort Pahalgam, -2.4 degree celsius was recorded in Gulmarg, and -2.4 in border district Kupwara. The minimum temperature in the Ladakh region was recorded in Leh -8.6, Kargil -8.2, and Drass -12.1 degree Celsius.
