Srinagar: BJP leader Rakesh Pandita has been shot dead by terrorist in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Pandita was the head of the Tral Municipal Committee in Pulwama district. He was a counsellor as well as secretary of the BJP's district unit. A woman who is said to be the daughter of Pandita's friend was also injured in the attack.
Pandita was shot on Wednesday evening while he was walking outside his residence in Tral. Police said two PSO were deployed to protect them. But they went to Tral without security. He was rushed to the hospital after being shot where doctors declared him brought dead. A search operation is on in the area in search of the militants. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the victim's family. According to media reports, the number of terrorists who fired was three. They fled the spot to carry out the attack. Asifa, daughter of mushtaq ahmed, the woman who was injured in the firing, is said to be in the fire. He is undergoing treatment at Upzila Hospital in Tral.
Pandita has been murdered at a time when the first anniversary of Hindu Sarpanch Ajay Pandita alias Bharti is coming up. On 8th June, 2020, terrorists killed Ajay Pandita in the same way. He was shot while he was in his garden. The terrorists had fled even after the firing.
