The Jangalmahal Literature Fest, also known as the 'Jangalmahal Sahitya Utsav,' is poised to captivate West Bengal from Saturday, October 7, 2023. This vibrant literary gathering is orchestrated by the collaborative efforts of the Paschim Banga Bangla Academy and the West Bengal government. Spanning over two enriching days, the festival's spotlight will shine brightly on the Jangalmahal region, encompassing the territories of West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura, and Purulia districts within West Bengal.

Inaugural Grandeur at the Jangalmahal Literature Fest

The distinguished inauguration ceremony of the Jangalmahal Literature Fest will be graced by the presence of the State Education Minister, Bratya Basu. Alongside him, notable figures like the West Bengal Minister of State for Forests, Birbaha Hansda, and the Minister of State for Water Resources Investigation and Development, Manas Bhunia, will add luster to this auspicious occasion. The event will also see the participation of intellectuals and other dignitaries.

During a pre-event press conference, Basu, who also holds the position of Chairman of Paschimbanga Bangla Akademi, unveiled the festival's exciting lineup. It promises to host 30 Adivasi writers, including eight accomplished women poets. Additionally, renowned literary figures such as Nalin Bera, Abul Basar, Pracheta Gupta, and publisher Sudhangsusekhar Dey are slated to grace the festival with their presence.

Exploring the Theme and Venue

The Jangalmahal Literature Fest for this year has embraced the theme 'Kabitar Palash, Godhyer Simul." This thematic choice, curated by the West Bengal Information and Cultural Affairs Department, is expected to inspire and provoke thought among the attendees. The literary congregation will be held at the esteemed Midnapore College, setting the stage for an immersive experience.

A Showcase of Literary Diversity

With an impressive showcase of literary diversity, the fest will host an array of 200 writers, comprising poets and essayists, eager to engage in dialogue and exploration of their craft. Notably, 80 stalls dedicated to little magazines will be set up at the festival, providing a platform for both established and aspiring writers to showcase their work.

The literary representation at the festival is as follows: 35 litterateurs from Bankura, 42 from Jhargram, 22 from Birbhum, and 84 from Paschim Medinipur districts. In addition, Purulia will be represented by 33 literary luminaries.

A Platform for Aspiring Authors

The two-day event promises an abundance of literary seminars and captivating poetry discussions. It boasts an impressive roster of more than 239 poets and authors. In essence, the Jangalmahal Literature Fest emerges as a thriving platform for emerging authors from the Jangalmahal region, fostering creativity, dialogue, and a celebration of literary excellence.
