OSAKA: Indian shuttler H.S. Prannoy defeated Singapore's eighth-seeded Loh Kean Yew 22-20, 21-19 on Thursday to advance to the men's singles quarterfinals of the Japan Open.

Prannoy is the only Indian still competing in the Japan Open as Kidambi Srikanth was eliminated after losing to local favourite Kanta Tsuneyama by scores of 21-10, 21-16. In 44 minutes, Prannoy outplayed Singapore's eighth-seeded Loh Kean Yew, a former world champion, by scores of 22-20 and 21-19.

In 44 minutes, Prannoy, a former world number 8 who had advanced to the world championships quarterfinals the previous week, defeated Loh Kean Yew.

Prannoy is the only Indian still competing in the Japan Open as Kidambi Srikanth was eliminated after losing to local favourite Kanta Tsuneyama by scores of 21-10, 21-16.

Kidambi knocked on the door of overcoming the determined Malaysian and eventually defeated Lee Zii Jia 22-20 23-21. The result was the Indian's first victory over Lee in three fights. After the game, Kidambi stated that consistency was more important to him.

"I've come close to beating him before. In the first game, I had a 15-11 advantage at one point, and he was making some aggressive shots, but I needed to play steadily. I was unable to reveal any obvious points. I'm incredibly joyful. Even though I'm exhausted, I'm eager to play my next game."
