Kolkata: Lyricist Javed Akhtar and his wife Shabana Azmi met West Bengal CM and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo, Mamata Banerjee, on Thursday evening (July 29) amid her visit to Delhi. After meeting Mamata Banerjee, Akhtar has said, "The mood of the country is changing, Mamata's priority is not to lead, she believes that there should be change.'' He further said, "The Bengal model is an example, no doubt in the country for Khela Hobe.''

Mamata Banerjee has come to Delhi for the first time after winning the Bengal elections. According to the report, after the meeting, Akhtar said that unfortunately there were riots in Delhi. He said that at present, there is an atmosphere of fear all over the country and it should end. However, he avoided the question of who would lead the front. Talking to media persons after the meeting, Akhtar said, 'It was a formal meeting. Bengal has a history of leading revolutionary movements. Artists and intellectuals from Bengal support Mamata Ji. We congratulated her on his victory.' Akhtar further said, "We are grateful to Mamata Ji for her support in amending the Royalty Bill, which will benefit musicians, lyricists, lyricists from royalty.''

'When asked should Didi go ahead and lead,' Akhtar said, 'In our short conversation, she never said that leadership is his priority. She wants a change. Earlier she fought for Bengal and now she wants to fight for change in India. Who will lead the country is not important, but what India will be like is of paramount importance. Democracy has to be dynamic and continuous.' Talking about the slogan 'Khela Hobe,' Akhtar said, "It will reverberate all over India, it does not need evidence. It is beyond discussion now.'' In this meeting with Mamata, Javed Akhtar spoke of the Delhi riots, but not a word came out of the mouth of the lyricist or his wife on the brutal crimes in Bengal, the gang-rape victims who wandered for justice, and hundreds of people fleeing from their homes.
