Bengaluru. VK Sasikala (Sasikala), a close aide of late Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa, will on Wednesday complete her four-year jail term on corruption charges. But after being found infected with covid on January 20, she may have to continue his treatment at a hospital in Bengaluru. According to jail officials, Sasikala will be formally released today.

"All necessary formalities related to his release will be completed in the hospital on Wednesday, as she is a quarter due to corona," an official in the jail said on Monday, adding that the decision to discharge from the hospital will be taken after consulting doctors. Sasikala was sentenced to four years in jail in February 2017 along with her sister-in-law J Elavarasi and Jayalalithaa's foster son VN Sudhakaran in connection with the Rs 66-crore Benami property case. The 63-year-old Sasikala is languishing in the property case. The case relates to assets worth Rs 66.65 crore during Jayalalithaa's tenure as CM of Tamil Nadu from 1991-1996.

In September 2013, a special court sentenced Jayalalithaa to four years of simple imprisonment. She had to quit as chief minister with a fine of Rs 100 crore. Three other accused, Sasikala, VN Sudhakaran, and J Elavarasi were also convicted. All were fined Rs 10 crore.
