LUCKNOW: On Monday, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president Jayant Chaudhary filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha as a joint SP-RLD candidate. When Jayant came to file his nomination papers, he was accompanied by Samajwadi Party President (SP) Akhilesh Yadav.
"I am grateful to Akhilesh Yadav for his party's support for my candidacy, and I assure you that in the Rajya Sabha, I will address pertinent concerns," he told reporters.
The Samajwadi Party has made the first move toward cementing the SP-RLD alliance for the Lok Sabha polls by announcing support for Jayant Chaudhary.
Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav stated that this was a continuation of the SP-RLD partnership. The Samajwadi Party's third candidate for the Rajya Sabha biennial elections will be Jayant Chaudhary. Kapil Sibal, who is running as an independent candidate, has already received the party's endorsement. Javed Ali is another SP nominee.
In the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, the RLD has eight MLAs, and a candidate needs 37 votes to win a seat. There are 111 MLAs in the Samajwadi Party.
