MOSCOW: In a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov addressed the situation surrounding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

According to state news report, the Iranian nuclear accord was considered in light of the eighth round of negotiations on the restoration of the JCPOA, which began on December 27, 2021 in Vienna. Furthermore, both ministers discussed bilateral and regional problems.

Since April of last year, Iran has undertaken seven rounds of discussions in Vienna with the key parties to the 2015 nuclear deal, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, China, and Russia. Indirectly, the United States has been involved in the negotiations.

The eighth round of talks began on December 27 in Vienna and ended on January 3 this year. Following the January negotiations, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated that they had "gained momentum," adding that all sides had shown willingness to find solutions to the outstanding issues.
