Patna: Swords have now been drawn in the BJP-JDU over the Uniform Civil Code in Bihar. In fact, the demand for a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the BJP-ruled states is gaining momentum and many BJP chief ministers seem to agree with it. After Uttarakhand, the government in Uttar Pradesh is also in the mood to implement a uniform civil code. In Bihar also, many BJP veterans have demanded the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah was on a visit to Bihar and had arrived at Jagdishpur in Bhojpur for the victory celebrations of Veer Kunwar Singh. During this time, former deputy CM and Rajya Sabha member Sushil Modi had made a statement about the UCC from the stage, to which the JDU's reaction has come out. Sushil Modi had said that now Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the UCC should be implemented in BJP-ruled states.

Responding to Sushil Modi's statement, JDU Parliamentary Board Chairman Upendra Kushwaha has said, "The country is run by the Constitution and will run from that. There is no need for a uniform civil code in Bihar, so where does the question arise from? This will not be possible in Bihar under Nitish Kumar's government. The JDU cannot compromise on its policies. However, the JDU has not clarified why it is opposing the UCC.''
