Deoghar: The bel and flowers offered in 21 temples of the complex, including the Baba Baidyanath temple in Deoghar district of Jharkhand, are no longer dumped in the garbage, but are being collected to make organic manure. While this unique initiative provides organic manure to gardens in nearby government offices, the filth that is collected around the temple courtyard has also been reduced.

Anand Tiwari, Assistant In-charge of Baba Baidyanath Dham Temple, said that till a few months ago, it was seen that a large quantity of bell leaves and flowers offered by devotees were being wasted or dumped in garbage. , which also hurt the faith of the devotees. To address the same problem, the temple management started making organic manure from these flowers and bells. He said that the first contact was made with the Deoghar Agricultural Sciences Centre. A plant was also set up for the purpose.

"A power grid has been set up for this," P.K. Sanigrahi, senior scientist at Deoghar Agricultural Sciences Centre, told the press. He said that on an average, 200 kg of flowers and bells are collected from the temple every day. In Sawan, the quantity increases from 400 to 500 kg per day. They are first dried, then their nutrients are examined. Then it makes organic manure.'
