Ranchi: Voting is underway for Dumka and Bermo assembly by-elections in Jharkhand. Meanwhile, it has come to the fore that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Dumka seat, Dr Louis Marandi is ahead of 3819 votes and Basant Soren of JMM has got 1379. The office sources of the state Chief Electoral Officer informed that the vote-counting started amidst tight security arrangements for the Barmo and Dumka assembly by-elections from 8 am. The results will be received by evening.
Counting of votes at Dumka Engineering College campus while counting in Barmo is taking place at the Househouse of Market Committee complex. Voting was held on November 3 for the by-election amid the Corona epidemic. It is also a new experience for the authorities here to make vote counting with the prevention of infection in the corona transition period. After the death of Congress MLA Rajendra Prasad Singh, a by-election has been held in the Barmo seat. A total of 16 candidates are in the fray in the Barmo seat.
In the last assembly elections, a by-election was held in the seat after the state's CM Hemant Soren resigned from Dumka and Barhait assembly constituency after winning the election from Dumka and Barhat assembly constituency. A total of 12 candidates are in the fray in Dumka assembly by-election.
