Jharkhand CM Soren directs probe and action in purchase of blankets

Ranchi: Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren reviewed the ongoing anti-corruption bureau (ACB) probe into the blanket scam and approved the Managing Director of Jharcraft to initiate action against the erring officials in the case. Those blankets were purchased by Jharcraft from Panipat in Haryana.

Jharcraft Ranchi and certain committees had purchased blankets from Panipat in Haryana. In 2018, the then Chief Secretary was applied for irregularities in blanket purchases and supply malpractices. The departmental secretary was then ordered by the then development commissioner to look into the facts. Accountant General Jharkhand conducted an audit on irregularities. Irregularities in blanket supply ranging from blanket production were highlighted by the Accountant General's Office. The matter was then investigated jointly. The inquiry report was then submitted to the Development Commissioner by the then Managing Director Jharcraft and irregularities in blanket supply were admitted.

The Jharcraft submitted a detailed investigation report on 23 February 2018. The report suspected the involvement of NHDC officials, thread supply officer, transporter Naseem Akhtar, then deputy general manager Zarcraft Ashok Thakur, chief finance officials Jharcraft and Renu Gopinath Panikkar, Chief Executive Officer Jharkhand in irregularities.
