Ranchi: Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren on Monday appealed to bankers to think out of the box to facilitate loans to Scheduled Tribe (ST) members so that they can get the education or start a business. "When the state was part of Bihar, the scheduled tribe community was facing the problem of non-availability of bank loans," the CM told a meeting with bank officials. This problem continues even today. Even after having land, the tribals are not getting loans from the banks. We must make arrangements to ensure that members of the ST community can easily get loans for starting a business or any other development goal."
Hemant Soren also said that the bank management can remove the problem of loans faced by Scheduled tribes and the Scheduled Caste community from the time of undivided Bihar. If the bank considers keeping the movable and immovable property constructed on the land, not the land, as collateral, the problem can be solved to some extent. Further, banks need to increase the limits of collateral-free loans so that tribals can get loans for easy education, housing, business, and the setting up of industries. He said the figure of ST members is 28 percent of the population of the state.
The CM said the above while chairing a meeting held at Project Bhawan on Monday to provide loans by banks to the Scheduled Tribe community. The CM said if the bank takes away the land of the tribal community, their existence will be taken away. We have to work while protecting their existence. If the people of this community do not move forward, how will the state move forward on the path of development? Bank management considers this. Keep these things in the bank management board meeting.
