New Delhi: Hemant Soren government of the state has challenged the decision of the central government in auctioning coal mines of Jharkhand. The Jharkhand government alleges that the Modi government has unilaterally announced the auction of coal mines in the state without consulting them.

The Soren government of Jharkhand has filed a petition against the central government under Article 131 of the Constitution. It is noteworthy that in case of a dispute with the Center, the state government can file a case directly in the top court under this article. Earlier last month, the Jharkhand government had filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the central government's action of the digital auction process for mining of 41 coal mines in the state.

Now in this new petition, the state government has claimed that the auction of coal mines by the Center during the global pandemic coronavirus is highly inappropriate. The petition also claimed that the purpose of filing it is to criticize the unilateral, arbitrary and illegal action of the Center to initiate the auction process for commercial mining in nine coal mines located along the border of Jharkhand.
