Jharkhand HC orders recovery of uranium-like substances from Bokaro

Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court has directed three major technical establishments to investigate 4.5 kg of uranium of silver and grey material seized by Bokaro police in June this year. The Jharkhand High Court gave the directions on Thursday while hearing the bail application of a criminal. The manner in which the suspected uranium was earlier investigated by a UCIL team without informing the Judicial Magistrate, whose court is pending the case. Expressing serious concern over that, the High Court asked the technical establishments to conduct exercises.

The same Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, Indira Gandhi Atomic Research Centre Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu and Raja Raman Advanced Technology Centre, Indore have been asked to inspect the sample. Hearing krishna kant rana's bail plea, the court of Justice SK Dwivedi said that the sample was first examined by an expert committee of Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) at Jadugora due to investigation.

The court in its order said that the chief judicial magistrate of Bokaro and where the case is pending. The material will be collected in the presence of the judicial magistrate there. The Justice said that the collection of recovered minerals will be communicated to Chief District Judge Bokaro and will be done in the presence of deputy commissioner of Bokaro. The report of major establishments in pen drive kept in sealed envelope will be placed before the High Court. The matter will come up for hearing on December 16. The court further said that the entire proceedings will be recorded on video by the district administration. The officers will also provide adequate security measures to ensure that the judicial officers present at the time of collection are protected from the possible effects of radiation.
