Jharkhand High Court will hear Lalu Yadav's bail plea today

Ranchi: The bail plea of former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav is being heard in the fodder scam case of Jharkhand High Court on Friday. Lalu Yadav is accused of fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 33.67 crore from the Chaibasa treasury in the fodder scam case and he was the CM of Bihar. Lalu Yadav was in jail since December 2017, he was sentenced to 7 years imprisonment in 2018 under the Prevention of Corruption Act in connection with the case.

The hearing on the bail plea of former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav in the fodder scam case was deferred till Friday 19 February. On Thursday, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief's elder son and party MLA Tej Pratap Yadav sent a 50,000 postcard letter to President Ram Nath Kovind requesting the release of the former Bihar CM from jail on humanitarian grounds. Lalu Prasad Yadav has been transferred from the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) of Ranchi to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi on the advice of the State Medical Board.

Lalu's doctor, Dr Umesh Prasad, said last month that Yadav's kidney is working at 25% capacity and his condition appears to be deteriorating. On March 24, 2018, CBI Special Judge Shivpal Singh sentenced Lalu to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment in the Dumka treasury embezzlement case of the fodder scam. The RJD chief was convicted in 4 cases of fodder scam and has already obtained bail in three other cases.
