Jharkhand: Eleven people were convicted in a case related to cow vigilantism which resulted in the murder of one. A session court in Jharkhand has found eleven people guilty of beating a person to death and torching his car on suspicion of carrying beef in it.

All of them have been convicted of Murder and three of them have been also slapped with charges of conspiracy which reveal that the attack was planned in advance. The list of convicts also includes one local BJP leader.

This is the first time a court has convicted people in a case related to cow vigilantism.

The incident happened in June last year near Bajartand village in Ramgarh district. A man named Alimuddin, who was traveling in his Maruti Omni, popularly known as Maruti van, was stopped by a group of people, self-styled cow vigilantes. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Police claimed that they took action quickly after they came to know about the incident and rushed the victim to a hospital.

The day of the incident coincided with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s first ever statement on the increasing incidents of cow vigilantism. Earlier on that day, PM Modi had condemned incidents of cow vigilantism saying violence in the name of Gau Bhakti is unacceptable.
