Srinagar: Mahfooz Ilahi Hazam, 26, was felicitated by the Kulgam district administration of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. He recently returned from Mount Everest. Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-Jin Bhatt, Deputy Commissioner, Kulgam, congratulated Mahfooz on conquering Everest. During his felicitation ceremony, DC gifted him a shawl and momanto.
Meanwhile, the DC said that Mahfooz will encourage the youth and boost their interest in mountaineering and other sports. Mahfooz is a resident of Kujru in Kulgam district. He is a civilian instructor at the Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering and Winter Sports Aru (Pahalgam). Mahfooz said he belongs to a middle class family. On the morning of June 1, at 6:30 a.m., he completed his mission and completed the climb to the world's highest peak (8,849 meters), led by Colonel L.S. Thapa. He has completed the climb of Everest twice. Colonel Thapa is currently the principal of the JIMWS.
He explained that this campaign was not easy at all. His team was stranded in Camp 2 for 10 days due to strong winds. Mahfooz said the youth of Kashmir should come forward for adventure sports. People here have a lot of potential for it. ADC, ACD and several other officials of the district administration were present during the felicitation ceremony.
