New Delhi: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will announce the District Good Governance Index for Jammu and Kashmir's 20 districts on Saturday, making Jammu and Kashmir the first Union Territory in the country to do so.

The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) and the Jammu and Kashmir Institute of Management, Public Administration and Rural Development, in collaboration with the Hyderabad-based Centre for Good Governance, will host the event. Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister, and Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, will also speak at the occasion.

DARPG prepared the District Good Governance Index for Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with the government of Jammu and Kashmir in response to the announcements made in the "Behtar e-Hukumat - Kashmir Aelamia" resolution adopted on July 2, 2021, at the Regional Conference on Replication of Good Governance Practices in Srinagar.

In July 2021, the process of developing the District Good Governance Index began, and it has now been finished, making Jammu and Kashmir the first Union Territory in the country to have a Good Governance Index.

The government of Jammu and Kashmir's District Good Governance Index is a significant step toward timely compilation and release of information at the state/district level, as well as a major administrative reform in evaluating good governance at the district level.
