Washington: According to a Reuters/Ipsos poll, US President Joe Biden's approval rating dropped to 39 percent this month, almost to its lowest point since taking office, as the US economy appeared to be slowing down.
The three-day survey, which came to an end on Sunday, revealed a slight decline from last month, when 42% of participants said they approved of Biden's presidency.
After he assumed office in January 2021, Biden's popularity began to decline almost steadily, reaching a low point of 36% in mid-2022. Since then, it has stayed relatively at that level.

Biden announced last Friday that he would be seeking reelection in 2024, but he has not yet officially begun his campaign. Although he is not anticipated to face significant opposition for the Democratic Party nomination, his approval ratings are still low by historical standards.
The approval ratings for Donald Trump, who is also running for president in 2024, were generally low throughout his administration from 2017 to 2021 and peaked at 33% in December of that year. Presidents before him only occasionally saw approval ratings that low.
One in five respondents to the Reuters/Ipsos poll said the economy was the biggest issue the nation was currently facing. About one in ten respondents named crime and the environment as America's top problems.

One potential plus for Biden is that 68 percent of respondents opposed federal courts overturning the FDA's approval of the abortion drug mifepristone.
The outcome was the most recent to demonstrate that a significant majority of Americans oppose measures to restrict access to abortion.
