Gwalior: A joint operation conducted by the crime branch, Flying Squad, and Surveillance Team (FST) in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior district resulted in the confiscation of Rs 25 lakh cash from a car on Thursday night, according to a police official.
The teams were conducting vehicle checks near an overbridge in the Account General office area, city center, following the implementation of the model code of conduct for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The individual carrying the cash was identified as Hari Krishna Singhal, a resident of Murar locality in Gwalior, who claimed to be a businessman.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP, Crime Branch) Ayush Gupta explained, "Following the implementation of the model code of conduct for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, there is a directive to confiscate any cash amounting to more than Rs 50,000 without valid documentation. A joint operation was underway near an overbridge in the AG office area, with both the FST and Crime Branch teams."
Gupta further stated, "During the Thursday night check, the teams discovered Rs 25 lakh cash in a car. The individual in possession of the cash was unable to produce valid documentation upon request. Consequently, the amount was confiscated. The seized funds will be transferred to a committee at the Collectorate for further proceedings."
It's noteworthy that Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh are slated to be held across the first four phases on April 19, April 26, May 7, and May 13.
