Jonathan Bloomer, the chairman of Morgan Stanley International and former CEO of Prudential Plc, tragically died in a yacht accident off the coast of Italy on August 19. He was 70 years old. His wife, Judy Bloomer, also lost her life in the incident. The couple was aboard the luxury yacht Bayesian, celebrating the acquittal of British tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch, for whom Jonathan Bloomer had testified. A tornado hit the yacht near Porticello, Sicily, resulting in the death of six people.

In response to the tragedy, the Bloomer family released a statement: "Our parents were remarkable individuals who inspired many, but above all, they cherished their family and spent quality time with their new grandchildren. After being together for fifty years, we find solace in knowing they are together now. This loss is beyond words, and we request that our family's privacy be respected during this difficult time."

Jonathan Bloomer had been leading Morgan Stanley's European operations since 2018. He also recently took on the role of chairing the board at British insurer Hiscox Ltd. Ted Pick, Morgan Stanley's CEO, praised Bloomer’s contributions, noting, "His leadership and expertise were invaluable in navigating a challenging period for our international divisions."

Aki Hussain, CEO of Hiscox, also paid tribute, saying, "It was an honor to have worked with Jonathan Bloomer."

Bloomer's distinguished career included a 20-year tenure as a partner at Arthur Andersen, senior roles at Prudential Plc from 1995 to 2005, and a stint as an operating partner at Cerberus Capital Management LP from 2006 to 2012. He later held leadership positions on the boards of various companies, including Arrow Global Group Ltd. and DWF Group Ltd.
