AMMAN:  Jordanian King Abdullah-II said on Wednesday that the kingdom's defence law, which enected to combat the spread of COVID-19, will be deactivated in the next months, claiming that the epidemic is waning.

According to a statement provided by the royal court, the King made the announcement during a speech commemorating the kingdom's 76th Independence Day.

The defence law, which went into effect in September 2020, places limits on travel and social gatherings, as well as business and private sector operations within Jordan.  Jordan will present an integrated economic vision for the coming years, said the king.

According to the statement, the Jordanian government will complete a public sector development programme by the end of May to improve public services, streamline bureaucratic procedures, boost labour productivity, and progress an e-government initiative.

In terms of regional issues, the king stated that Jordan will continue to support the Palestinian people's right to build an independent state on their own land.
