Srinagar: A Joshimath-like situation has started building up in the Doda district of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The land has started sinking in Nai Basti village of Thathri tehsil. Cracks have appeared in many houses here. 22 houses have been damaged after cracks appeared. And 300 people have been displaced from there. The villagers feel that they are caught between the devil and the deep sea. They have requested Jammu and Kashmir's Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha for their rehabilitation.
Thathri Sub-Divisional Magistrate Athar Amin Zargar has said that the administration is closely monitoring the situation and all necessary and precautionary steps are being taken for the safety of the people. At the same time, LG Manoj Sinha said that all possible help will be provided to the affected families. However, he refused to compare the situation in Doda with the landslide incident in Joshimath, Uttarakhand.
A woman named Shazia Begum (38) says that I do not want to leave the village. Where shall we go now? We are devastated. We built a house for our children by working as laborers. We urge the government to do something for us. I have a disabled child. Where do we go now? Shazia's house got damaged due to cracks.
