New Delhi: Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Saturday (November 19) said that judges of lower courts also hesitate to grant bail in heinous cases due to the fear of being targeted. In a further felicitation function organized by the Bar Council of India, CJI Chandrachud said that the higher judiciary is inundated with bail applications.
According to the report, CJI DY Chandrachud said that Justices are reluctant to grant bail, it does not mean that they do not understand the crime, but they do so because they are targeted for granting bail in heinous cases. There is a fear of being made. Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju was also present at the event organized by the Bar Council of India.
Keeping his point, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed concern over the meeting of many lawyers with the CJI regarding transfers, saying that I have heard that some lawyers want to meet the CJI in connection with the transfer case. But, where will it lead if this becomes a frequent occurrence on every decision of the collegium, which the government keeps endorsing. In this case, the whole dimension will change.
