Judiciary: Iran hands down second death sentence over ‘riots’

THERAN: An Iranian court has sentenced a "rioter" to death for the second time in three days for acts of violence linked to protests that erupted after the death of Mahsa Amini, according to the judiciary.

The judiciary's Mizan Online website reported late Tuesday that "a revolutionary court sentenced another defendant to death, charged with threatening people with a sharp weapon, setting a civilian's motorcycle on fire and attacking a man with a knife." Is charged."
It declared that the accused were enemies of God as they had used knives to spread terror.

In response to protests that began on September 16, when Amini died in custody after her arrest for allegedly violating the Islamic republic's dress code for women, Iran carried out its first death sentence on Sunday.

The first conviction was charged with "set on fire a government building, disturbing public order, assembly and conspiracy to commit crimes against national security", Meezan recalled at the time. He was also accused of being an "enemy of God and corruption on earth".

According to Mijan, five additional defendants received prison sentences ranging from five to ten years for "committing crimes against national security and conspiring to disturb public order".

The convictions were handed down by courts of first instance, so appeal is an option.
