Junior Football: India qualified for the AFC Under-16 Championship

New Delhi: India's junior football team has qualified for the AFC Under-16 Championship. The Indian team played a 1–1 draw from Uzbekistan to secure their place for the championship to be played in Bahrain next year. The Indian team had seven points in three matches which were equal to Uzbekistan but due to better goal difference India topped. The Indian team had a goal difference of 10 while Uzbekistan had a goal difference of three. India had earlier defeated Turkmenistan and Bahrain 5–0 in the tournament.

India only needed a draw to qualify and the team took the lead with Sridutt's goal in the 68th minute of the match. Although the host team scored in the 81st minute to level the score at 1-1 but the Indian team did not give them any more opportunity. India has qualified for the AFC Under-16 Championship for the third consecutive time and for the ninth time. On this success of the team, coach Bibiano Fernandes said, "I have pride in my players. Everyone worked hard for which equal credit should be given to the members and the players.
