New Delhi: Senior Supreme Court Judge N V Ramana, the country's largest court, became the 48th Chief Justice (CJI) of the country on Saturday. President Ram Nath Kovind has sworn in Justice Ramanna as chief justice at Rashtrapati Bhavan. After Chief Justice (CJI) SA Bobde retired on April 23, Judge N V Ramanna was sworn in as the 48th Chief Justice today.

Justice Ramanna's tenure in the Supreme Court is till August 26, 2022, i.e., he will hold the post of Chief Justice for less than two years. Tell me, Ramanna will be the first Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court to become the Chief Justice. Born in a farmer's family in Punnavaram village of Krishna district on August 27, 1957, in Andhra Pradesh, Natulapati Venkata Ramanna has graduated in Science and Law.

Ramanna started his judicial career as a lawyer on February 10, 1983. He then started practice in the Andhra Pradesh High Court, the Central Administrative Tribunal, and the Supreme Court. On June 27, 2000, he was appointed permanent judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court. He served as acting Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court from 10 March 2013 to 20 May 2013. Justice Ramanna was promoted to the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court on September 2, 2013.
